Dreamscape: Real Dreams Really Make a Difference by Martha Cinader is a dramatic collection of narrative and poetry meant to inspire young people to reach their aspirations, no matter what the obstacles. Covering famous inventors, such as Tesla and Einstein, Cinader brings their struggles alive through creative verse. She also incorporates various female heroines, such as Sacajawea, a French resistance fighter, Josephine Baker, and an African queen, Mella. The collection is meant to be read aloud in a theatrical or auditorium setting, according to the author. She hopes to emulate the storytellers of old to bring back the spoken histories of the world.

As a reviewer, I found this would have been better classified as dramatic non-fiction. Saying that, I was drawn in by the unique style of this collection. I particularly enjoyed some of the poetry about historical figures, almost written in a rapping style. I feel Miss Cinader did take into consideration how to draw in her youth audience by appealing to their culture. This is so crucial when writing for young adults. Dreamscape: Real Dreams Really Make a Difference by Martha Cinader is something I would recommend for teachers wanting to bring history alive for their students.
