Lily Scott is a widow living in Salem, Massachusetts. She was born a witch, can dream walk, and like the females in her family has a firefly birthmark. The ability to uncover injustice comes with the consequence of having to face and fight a dream stalker. The first time that she dream walked, it almost ended in disaster and Lily promised herself never to do it again. Dream Stalker: A Paranormal Mystery by Nancy Gardner, takes up the story forty years later as Lily watches Kitty, her friend since she was twelve, commit suicide after asking her to find the truth. She does not know how she will do it without breaking her promise to herself. When her daughter Sarah was arrested for murder, she knew she had to dream walk again. At three o’clock in the morning, she drinks a tea mixture with her daughter’s ribbon in her hand, ready to walk her dreams, as she has to know whether Sarah was innocent.
Nancy Gardner blends a mixture of magic, murder, and mystery into Dream Stalker in such a way that it feels realistic. This is an action-packed mystery that kept me guessing and engaged from the beginning until the end. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, turning pages to see what will happen next. The story is well-written, interesting, and provided details about everyday life and magic. Thanks to Gardner, I was part of this world of mystery and magic. The plot was fast-paced with many unexpected events and the ending is very exciting. The characters were fully developed and realistic, and I could relate to them. My favorite character is Lily, who was always ready to help someone in need. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and recommend it to readers who love paranormal mysteries.
