Dream Lost, Dream Found by Ron Decker is a Christian novel that would appeal most to a mixed audience of Christian young adults and adults who enjoy stories of faith and redemption. Sixteen-year-old Jonah Dunningbrook’s life is forever changed when his family decides to move from Zuniga Ridge to Crawford or, as he calls it, “a dustbowl in the middle of nowhere”. Jonah goes through his school days with no friends and barely interacting with his classmates until one day three girls ask him for a ride home, and he begins to have feelings for one of them. When his crush invites him to attend church with her family on Sunday, he finds his calling. Will Jonah become an overseas missionary, a pastor, or a drunken failure?
Dream Lost, Dream Found by Ron Decker was an interesting story, filled with twists and turns as Jonah Dunningbrook’s life kept going in different directions, only to change at the last moment. I have to say that I felt very upset on behalf of Jonah when he was pressured into becoming a pastor by members of the church instead of traveling to South America as a missionary. I did not like how members of the church made snide comments about how someone must have misinterpreted their mission from God. However, I was also very happy when I learned that he was going to be a father as I felt like it helped to cement the feeling of hope and purpose in his life. Overall, I found that this book took me on an emotional roller coaster of feelings and I finished the story feeling happy that I had decided to read it.
