Growing up can be challenging. During our teenage years, we're more aware of the world around us. In Dreaded Dinner Party by Destiny Henderson, Aucuria 'Curi' Andrews is learning a lot about herself, her neighbors, her parents, and their friends. Curi's parents frequently have parties that present intrigue because of all the people she gets to meet, like Wolfeman whom she enjoys. The irony is that when the Digis come to the party, they always wreak havoc. One day at one of the Andrews' parties, with the Digis in attendance, things changed. Curi was able to see first hand how choices and circumstances can affect and influence the future. What can Curi do? Get involved or let her parents handle it? Your young reader will enjoy this book because it will help them to learn a lot about social issues, and how the decisions that they make can greatly impact their lives.
I enjoyed reading Dreaded Dinner Party by Destiny Henderson. The author cleverly showed the story through the mind of the child, Curi. I found this book a great read because it showed the essence of life from family dynamics, first crush, and diverse neighborhoods to the behavior of adults, whether it's the parents, their associates or their friends. During difficult times, teenagers do not always confide in an adult for advice to help them work through it. When they need something of value that is helpful to them, books offer another source. The young reader needs material that they can learn from to help them to mature and grow. Add this book to your library.
