"Oath’s civilians love the color white, the smell of freshly-cut grass, and playing the piano by the fire at precisely 7:11 p.m. on Friday. There’s never been a disagreement or a disaster. In a town where everybody has the same idea, there’s not much to argue about." In Down to Oath by Tyrolin Puxty, our protagonist Codi finds life in Oath dull, and people are either disturbed by her oddness or ignore her unconventional personality. The only one who ever visits the town's library, Codi finds a young girl there who makes her realize that there are other towns beyond the mist. And there are other versions of herself. But Oath and other towns like it exist for a reason, and a malicious soul is hell-bent on destroying everything for the sake of grief.

Codi's drab world is forever changed as a little girl appears and introduces her to a world filled with children, laughter, and, most importantly, color. Yet, the change will also bring chaos and unleash grief that could destroy the foundational structure of the existence of the towns and their residents. Thought-provoking facets of life such as despair, happiness, perseverance, and individuality are woven into the premise. At the same time, the themes of karma and reincarnation evoke the essence of spirituality without compromising the fantastical elements that make the story captivating. Destiny is shaped by more than just predefined rules, and the characters can make their own choices. With the potential to become a great series, Tyrolin Puxty's Down to Oath is a fascinating contemporary fantasy whose protagonist stumbles into a compelling journey of finding herself to live a life.
