A “Door Whore” is the host or hostess at a restaurant. Ivy Zingara and her husband Vincent are workaholics. After spending the evening with a chef friend, Ivy set out to create a restaurant. Sentimento would soon be the focus of her life. Things were not easy from the beginning. Ivy found the perfect location, but it took months to acquire it. Sub-contractors, permits, and inspectors, were the next obstacles. No one was willing to deal with a woman. The next obstacle was the paid help. Christopher Miller was the chef with multiple personalities. The man was either totally evil or insane. Miguel was the opposite of Christopher. Miguel was an asset to Ivy and Sentimento. Ivy goes on to describe some of the customer’s antics.

The Door Whore by Fern Esposito is a talented author. She successfully mixes wit and realism to make a delightfully entertaining book on the blessing and curse of owning a restaurant. Her style is one of larger-than-life depiction. I am totally convinced that I will continue to review books and never, ever own a restaurant! I suspect that most of this book is based on personal experience. This is an incredibly funny book. I will never eat out again without thinking of “what drama is going on in the kitchen.” Thank you for a good laugh and a behind-the-scenes look at the restaurant business!
