DJ dreamed of going off-road, though he was built for the road. DJ got the parts he needed and he was ready to hit the trails. He ran into some bullies who had nothing nice to say to him. Even though he dreamed of wheeling, DJ was scared of getting stuck in the mud, breaking down, and being stranded. DJ met more off-roaders the next day at the park but they were kind to him. Hooper, the leader of the group, invited him to go off-roading and though DJ was scared and anxious, he agreed to join them. That night he was reminded of his fears of going on the mountain roads and he remembered his father's words. Would DJ be able to move forward and reach the top?
DJ's Off-Road Adventures: DJ Faces His Fears by David McBee is an uplifting story based on the author's trip to Moab, Utah and how his friends helped him get rid of his fears and anxieties. Floyd Leroy's wonderful and bright illustrations breathe life into the story for young readers. DJ's portrayal is strong, relatable, and memorable and he will encourage youngsters to overcome their fears, anxieties, and obstacles like he did. It is a good story for parents and tutors to use for read-aloud and storytelling sessions. Children will understand how to face their fears and anxieties in a positive way and overcome them, and how to tackle their peer group and help each other. The story is a good way to realize how boosting each other can bring about remarkable changes in a person.
