Dinosaur Arms by Regina Puckett is a beautiful story that tackles a relevant topic, that of bullying. The young flies, butterflies, monkeys, zebras, elephants, giraffes, lions, and a T-Rex attend animal school in the Land of Friendship. All of them are good friends with each other, except the butterflies. They are mean and they bully and tease the other animals and insects when they play tag during the recess. The butterflies laugh at the tall animals and harass the short ones. They snicker at the giraffe’s long neck, the lion’s tangled mane, and the big eyes of the flies. Whenever Tommy T-Rex plays tag, they settle on his eyelashes so that he cannot see. His arms are too short to swipe them away and that makes him feel very sad and helpless. No one knows how to stop the butterflies till a storm comes blowing one day. To find out what happens, let's read the story.
The story is adorable and I like the author’s approach to the topic. It is not only about bullying but the author also speaks about helping someone during times of need, irrespective of their behavior. The illustrations are cute and charming and the story will encourage all children to accept their differences and play together. I like storybooks like this because they help children understand whatever concept, message, or ideas authors want to convey in a simple and easy way without making it too complicated. It is good to be friends with everyone and this story teaches children the concept.
