The Demon Aura by author Lisa Deerwood introduces us to Nashville and Raelyn and Julian, two people just trying to live as normal a life as possible. Raelyn looks to be your typical southern gal; petite, sweet, and polite. Underneath that charming exterior is a woman who is trying to find her place, having been told all her life that she is weird; her choice of careers is weird, her avoidance of people is weird, her fascination with Sherlock Holmes is weird, and if people even knew that she can see auras and a ghost they would think she is more than weird. All that is part of why she works in her family's funeral home business; she doesn't have to deal with people all that often. When the most gorgeous man she has ever seen walks into the funeral home and Raelyn can't find an aura, she is intrigued and has to find out more, but at what cost? Julian has a multitude of secrets, but all he is planning to do is say his final goodbyes to his aunt and then move on. He is not prepared for a petite southern gal to tempt him, or a demon to appear in the area and, even worse, to make Raelyn a target.

The Demon Aura by author Lisa Deerwood is a completely new realm of paranormal/supernatural writing. Julian is a demon master; it is not a job he chose, but rather something he was born into. His father, his grandfather and his great-grandfather had all been demon masters, and when they were all gone, it became Julian's turn. It was a job he did well, but not one that he particularly relished. He was determined to be the last of his line, to die without an heir, and to end the game. For that is what it was; demons coming to our world was a game the demons played and played well for centuries. This idea of a demon game and the job of demon master being passed from generation to generation is different and had me intrigued and wanting to know more. In fact, I still wanted to know more about Julian and the demon games after finishing the book. I found the story appealing and captivating. I wanted to keep reading and I felt a pull towards both characters. This book takes a different route from the paranormal and gives the reader reason to pause and think about the possibilities, which is probably one of my favorite things a book can do and hence why I recommend it highly.
