Deer-est Friend is a children's picture book by Sienna Whaley. The story follows the friendship of young Beth and her deer-est friend Poppy through three seasons: spring, summer, and fall. Beth has known Poppy since Poppy was a fawn. The pair spend a lot of time together and go on several adventures, are best friends, and are nearly inseparable. However, in the springtime, Beth overhears her parents talking about moving. Beth feels awful about the move. She fears leaving Poppy and growing apart from her best friend. Beth must find it in herself to tell her best friend about moving away.

Deer-est Friend is the story of meaningful friendships, the fear of losing a friend, and adjustment to unforeseen events. Sienna Whaley has written a delightful book. It is short, sweet, and it ends on a beautiful note. The illustrations are done masterfully and carry the charming and delicate spirit of the story. Unlike most picture books that cover a similar topic, this book surprisingly delivers a more realistic solution to the main character's dilemma. Whaley does this without compromising the candid quality of her writing. Even if best friends grow apart, they will still be able to hold onto and look back on the precious memories they shared. Sienna Whaley has given young readers and parents a book full of eye-catching aesthetics and a wholesome tale. I highly recommend giving it a read. It is a truly superb and dreamy little book.
