Once in a while, I just want a good, straight ahead "cops & robbers" read. No deep character development. No psychological subplots. Just an old fashioned "good guys versus bad guys" romp. If you're in that kind of mood, Deep Lies by R.A. Quinn is the book for you.
Newlywed Jacob 'Jake' Rohn takes off for his honeymoon with his bride, Whitney, to the backwoods of Alaska. He learned, just the day before at their wedding reception, that a hired assassin is hot on his heels. Rohn, an Alaska state trooper, is confident his network of law enforcement buddies and his own smarts can keep him and his new wife safe. But then dead bodies start to turn up. And Jake Rohn has to leave his bride and kick into action before the next one becomes his.
Deep Lies offers just enough detail to make the story believable while keeping the plot moving at a wonderful clip. The author, R.A. Quinn, is a retired Alaska state trooper and spent four years as commander of the Bristol Bay Area Post, the area in which Deep Lies is set. The communities, culture, and people of the area are captured in Quinn's pitch perfect, almost audible dialogue and the reader is off on a roller coaster ride to a whizz-bang finish. And then, just when you think it's over, it isn't. Deep Lies by R.A. Quinn is a heck of a good read.
