KELLY BRAKENHOFF is an American Sign Language Interpreter whose motivation for learning ASL began in high school when she wanted to converse with her deaf friends. Her first novel, DEATH BY DISSERTATION, kicked off the Cassandra Sato Mystery Series, followed by DEAD WEEK. She also wrote NEVER MIND, first in a children’s picture book series featuring Duke the Deaf Dog. She serves on the Board of Editors for the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf publication, VIEWs. The mother of four young adults and two dogs, Kelly and her husband call Nebraska home.

The deaf students on campus are gathering together to spearhead a campaign for deaf advocacy. Rachel is one of Cassandra’s student workers that is leading the charge, which gains national attention that may not agree with everyone on campus or her own family. Rachel digs into her own family origins but someone seems to have targeted her when an accident lands her in the hospital. Cassandra is determined to look into the matter herself to ensure that no harm befalls her students and to ensure that Rachel doesn’t get in over her head while she juggles how best to advocate for a campus-wide change to better benefit deaf students.
