Daffodil and the Thin Place by Dawn Knox is a great young adult book about a young girl, Daffodil, who accidentally swallows the soul of another young girl, Amielia, from the past. While most people only hear loud grumbling noises, Daffodil hears Amielia talking to her. Uncertain of what to do to get rid of her new, internal friend, she follows the soul's advice and searches for the thin place that will enable her to cross over into Amielia's time. Once there, they both hope to find Amielia's body and return her soul to where it belongs. However, things don't go so smoothly as Daffodil finds she must stop a thief, save a church, and save Amielia from an evil doctor with horrible intentions. With the help of Amielia, some new found friends, and a mysterious ghost, she can only hope to succeed before she is stuck in the past forever.
In writing Daffodil and the Thin Place, Dawn Knox has created an enjoyable adventure out of a sometimes overused plot line. The twist of Daffodil and Amielia's situation adds new colour and possibilities to the story and creates a unique journey worth taking. I found every chapter made me want to read more, as the characters and the situation drove the story on. The main issue I have with this story is that it is a bit too short, but that's because it was a great read, not because it was lacking anything. I would highly encourage anyone who likes engaging characters and time travel to check this book out.
