Unexpected events unfurl in Cursed (Morningstar Academy Book 1) by L.R.W. Lee. Gladriel was always known to be passionate and extremely loyal, so when her partner and best friend Astread is severely injured by demons, Glad decides to take revenge. The only problem is she was warned not to by the Almighty himself and becomes one of the fallen. Now she finds herself at none other than the Morningstar Academy where she must live and work with her former enemies. Worst of all, there seems to be something amiss, on top of an ancient prophecy predicting the end of humanity.
Cursed by L.R.W. Lee is everything you would expect in a fantasy novel: a stubborn female lead, a handsome love interest, quirky side characters, and a prophesied apocalyptic-style end of the world. I had such a fun time reading this book because it felt like I was always being kept on my toes. The plot takes some unexpected turns and the tone of the novel is constantly changing so you never get bored while reading it. I must say that Glad was a bit frustrating at times, but this was part of the author's plan as it helped to advance the plot. I enjoyed the cast of characters, particularly the fallen, mainly because they had more depth to them. I enjoyed this story and I think that Lee did a fantastic job in giving us a great fantasy novel while keeping it original.
