The Rift, a catastrophic apocalyptic war, had ushered in an era of chaos and disarray in North America. The Western states were seceding from the greedy government in the Eastern states, trying to break free from its oppressive rule. The federal government, not ready to let go of the already scarce resources available, waged war on the seceding states, starting a civil war. Kara Svalynn, the governor of New Mexico, bound for Colorado to deliver nuclear launch keys to her ally governor, stumbles into a small community in Dulce, a forgotten desert town in New Mexico. She meets Ash, a product of Project Harmony, a genetic science experiment. Back in New Mexico, Kara’s second in command, Ela Argenta, is captured and tortured following a siege by Federal troops. While on the brink of death, she is forced to discover her true nature. Ela is an Atlantide, a half-breed of a human and a Pleiadian − an advanced civilization from a different star system. During the Rift, the spirit of Dagon, a powerful Nephilim hunter who had set out to destroy the Pleiades and Atlantides, had been trapped in a crystal. However, Dagon’s spirit had grown stronger over time and had broken free, ready to finish what he started. Will Ash and Ela be able to save the world from the looming disaster coming their way? Get yourself A. James’ Crystal of Tears, the first installment in the Seersinger Chronicles, to find out.

If you are looking for a gripping, character-driven, fast-paced, sci-fi novel laced with a compelling tale of survival, loyalty, betrayal, vengeance, deception, love, secrets, strategies, blackmail, war, blood, sacrifices, power tussles, drama, adventure, action, scientists, power-hungry bureaucrats, diabolic ancient forces, and powerful supernatural beings, among much more, A. James’ Crystals of Tears is a must-read for you. Weaving an intriguing plot, James features a vast, dynamic, and exciting cast. Effortlessly running a storyline of parallel timelines, James pays just enough attention to details not to bog down the pace of the plot. The colorful, evocative depictions had me feeling like I was right in the middle of all the action, helplessly watching every scene unfold. The reading experience felt like watching a Marvel Studios movie, complete with a touch of wit. I would love to see this on the big screen. The edge-of-the-seat suspense and the mind-blowing plot twists had me hooked and flipping from cover to cover. The author brings out the complex traits and emotions of the cast, allowing me to connect with them. Crystal of Tears is a terrific debut for the Seersinger Chronicles. I loved it. I can’t wait to lay my hands on the next installments.

Crystal of Tears is a work of fiction in the science fiction, adventure, and interpersonal drama subgenres, and it forms the opening novel of the Seersinger Chronicles book series. It is suitable for the general adult reading audience. Penned by author A. James, the work presents an immersive and captivating blend of dystopian adventure and supernatural elements set in a world torn apart by conflict and scarcity. We follow the tale of Ash, a young man living in a desolate wasteland, and Ela Argenta, a lieutenant governor in New Mexico, both drawn into a struggle for survival and transcendence as they confront a despotic regime.

Author A. James combines elements of war, betrayal, and an ancient power known as the power of Singing, creating a unique and engaging narrative where ordinary concepts become something truly special from a totally new perspective. The characters, particularly Ash and Ela at the heart of the tale, are well-developed, and their journeys of self-discovery and courage are punctuated by a plot that truly puts them to the test. What struck me most about this book was its commitment to deeply explore themes like unity and the power of the human spirit to transcend adversity. It raises thought-provoking questions about the nature of conflict, identity, and the potential for redemption in a world on the brink of destruction. Overall, Crystal of Tears is an ambitious and thought-provoking first installment in the series. It blends genres seamlessly, offering readers a thrilling and imaginative journey into a dystopian world where hope and the power of unity shine through the darkest of times, and I really look forward to seeing where the Seersinger Chronicles series goes next.

In Crystal of Tears by A. James, Maia uses songs to protect her island and merges with Dagon to alter their genetic code for her people's safety, leaving a violet gemstone. Ash deals with the loss of his mentor and a dream involving Maia, leading him to help Karen Lynn escape a war. They get trapped in an underground labyrinth and find a polished granite chamber. In a spider's bite-induced vision, the fated Ela meets Maia and learns about Atlantis. Ash and Karen discover Ash's unique genetic marker, RCC72, and a mysterious crystal. Eric Mahler seeks Ottavio Aurilla for a superhuman gene related to the crystal, then witnesses another transformation. Maia guides Ela to the Crystal of Tears. Dagon confronts Mahler, unleashing psychic powers. As the story evolves, Ela and the Singers, all with diverse abilities, prepare to battle Dagon and the Eastern Coalition.

There is a lot going on in Crystal of Tears as it is the foundational novel of the Seersinger Chronicles and A. James does an exceptional job of introducing the series, its characters, and the convergence of the worlds we are shown. One of the standouts to me was viewed by the character Marissa, who observes two suns, new flora, and a massive, twisted spire where towering humanoid beings with jackal-like features awaited. Every setting that James describes is distinct, and because each character is so thoroughly fleshed out, even with alternating points of view, we know exactly who we are with as soon as the narrative turns to or back to any one of them. I loved the proliferation of strong female protagonists who are up against some ferociously powerful foes. This is an exciting foray into something new and beautifully written, and I look forward to seeing where it goes next. Very highly recommended.
