Crossing the Jordan: There is a Golden Road for Everyone by Melany Bungay is the author's conversion story, a story that chronicles her journey from atheism to Christianity. Melany was a nonbeliever who had been anything but clean. Promiscuity, booze, and adultery were just a few of the things she embraced. She hated Christians whom she considered weak escapists who would hide behind the idea of a virgin birth just to find a crutch to withstand the challenges of life. But while in the Middle East, all was about to change for Mel when the spirit world opened to her. Surviving an attack from two demons who said they were going to kill her, Melany raised a desperate cry to God, asking Him to manifest if He were real, and God gave her a sign.
In Crossing the Jordan, Melany chronicles the journey of her conversion and the inspiration to write this book. The voice speaking in her head - "Clothe the prisoners, Mel" - sends her on a mission to bear witness through love and discipline to a God that she never acknowledged before. Crossing the Jordan: There is a Golden Road for Everyone is a powerful testament of faith, a narrative of a transforming encounter with the living God and a story that proclaims God's unfathomable mercy. Melany writes with simplicity and her words are filled with strength. I enjoyed the honesty with which she shares her story, allowing readers to experience her frustration in order to touch the grace that transformed her. A real gift of faith, indeed.
