Set during the British handover of Hong Kong to the People's Republic of China, Nina Purtee’s fascinating romance novel, Crossing Paths: The Road to Destiny, chronicles a couple’s beautiful union amid friendships and family sagas. One day, after getting engaged to Ramone, a legendary Spanish matador, Annie reflects on their journey. Just a day before, she had considered turning him down because of his dangerous profession. Now, Annie looks forward to becoming his wife. The story also follows their friends’ lives and the relationships they form. The upcoming turnover derails Annie and Ramone’s path to a happy marriage. As tension rises, the island of Mallorca becomes a safe haven for them. On the Spanish island, sailors prepare for The Copa del Rey, and pilgrims arrive for the annual Night of the Pilgrims.

Purtee has penned an immersive novel full of depth, heart, and captivating detail. There were many suspense-filled moments and unexpected outcomes that took me by surprise. The characters are well-crafted. They are original with distinct personalities and flaws as they face relatable struggles. The settings are described in striking detail which transported me to the places that frame the story. Annie and Ramone’s love story feels real. Other characters are compelling as well and their relationships seem authentic. The story’s ending is beautiful and rewarding. Crossing Paths is a soul-stirring portrait of a couple’s journey and lovely union. It includes eccentric, fresh characters whose lives are examined in detail and stunning settings that readers will love. While it continues the previous novel, it can be read as a standalone.

Nina Purtee's engaging book Crossing Paths chronicles the interwoven lives of Ramone and Annie, their families, and their difficulties. Annie and Ramone find themselves in the middle of what appears to be a sinister plan of retaliation while preparing for a wedding and setting their sights on a stunning villa in lovely Mijas, Spain. Their happy life is marred, though, by the appearance of a well-known threat from the past, which results in the kidnapping of Annie. Surprising information about Salvador, Ramone's father, and a former threat to Annie's family's prison break is revealed to the family. Ramone's capture by the Chinese is just one of the difficulties the family must overcome as they seek safety on the island of Mallorca. Will these conditions make it difficult for Ramone and Annie to get married?

Crossing Paths is the captivating journey of Ramone and Annie. The vivid descriptions by Nina Purtee brought every detail of the landscape to life. I was taken on a vivid journey through mesmerizing scenery, political drama, and romance. The book was easy to read, and the chapters flowed into each other. It was a page-turner, and the suspense kept me on the edge of my seat. The characters were authentic and added depth to the plot with their background stories. Annie and Ramone’s relationship was still new, and it was interesting to see how they worked through their challenges. They adapted and grew throughout the events. The story is beautifully written by a gifted writer, and I was captivated from the start. Crossing Paths exceeded my expectations by far.
