Award-winning winemaker, writer, and photographer Wally Root enlisted in the US Air Force after graduating from Allegheny Community College with an AA in English. During the Vietnam War, he served as a writer contributing to such publications as Aviation News, The Sky-Writer and Stars and Stripes. Wally was the editor-in-chief of the Air Force Academy's prestigious Falcon News and the Peterson Air Base's Observer, winning top Air Force awards for photojournalism and editorial content, including the Air Force Commendation Medal.
Wally studied winemaking under Alexis Descaunets Hartung, a national authority on winemaking and officer of the American Wine Society. In 2007, Wally won a gold medal in the Country Wine Amateur Wine Competition and a silver medal in the Winemaker International Amateur Wine Competition with his sweet Concord wine.
Wally owns an amateur winery on ten acres in northern Pennsylvania where he crafts excellent wines, writes, studies jazz guitar, and enjoys time with friends and family. He is a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.

It is a perfect book for those who want to know more about making wines without enrolling in any specialist classes. The author's personal experiences and photographs give it a special touch.
It is an informative book and the procedures of winemaking are given step by step. The book is highly useful to amateur wine-makers. The steps of winemaking are easy to follow and that is the strong point of the book. Beginning from how wine is crafted to its final bottle dressing, the author has covered everything related to winemaking. The writing and the tips are explained very clearly. The author's personal interest in the craft of winemaking is evident from the book.
The book tells us that winemaking is not as difficult as we think it is. Readers will know the friends and enemies of wine after reading the book. I enjoyed the chapter about 'Bottle Dressing.' It is something that will not cross your mind until you read about it. On the whole, the book is enjoyable, not only to those looking for tips on wine making, but also to general readers because it is informative.
