John L. Leonard was born in Savannah, Georgia and graduated from Savannah Christian School. He holds a BBA in Management Information Systems from the University of Georgia and worked as a computer programmer for more than twenty years before becoming a writer.
John has spent most of his adult life in the northern suburbs of Atlanta. His writing has also been influenced by shorter stints working as a bartender, real estate investor and landlord.
He has been married to wife Lisa for twenty-three years and is the proud father of two and grandfather of three, as well as pack leader for several wonderful dogs and a hostile Maine Coon cat.
His first non-fiction book was published in 2010.
John writes detective novels under the pen name Rocky Leonard. His first detective thriller was published in 2012.
The local color in his writing is equally authentic whether the setting is a Georgia beach, downtown Atlanta, or the Appalachian foothills in north Georgia.

I was glad to review John L. Leonard’s latest book, “Counterargument for God.” The author’s intended audience for this book is theist-agnostics and atheist-agnostics. “The atheist claims God does not exist, while a theist asserts the opposite. The agnostic simply says, “I don’t know.”” The author describes himself as a “writer with an attitude.” John Leonard always backs up his opinions with facts and documented sources. The first half of this book “offers a counterargument to the atheist argument based in science and specifically against young earth creationism.” The last half of this book defends the author’s believes and faith. Leonard begins by discussing evolution. “If evolution really explains the existence of life without God, then man is not only descended from the apes, but also distantly related to the bananas we both like to eat. The butterfly and butterfly bush are distant cousins. And the only known biological mechanism allowing this to happen is sexual reproduction.”
As I review this book, I find myself wanting to quote the author. His presentation is tactful, eloquent and stated in a logical manner. John Leonard has extensively researched the scientific arguments he discusses in this book. He also deftly asks questions that should have atheists questioning their beliefs. I was particularly impressed with the statements from the work of Dr. Francis Collins. The author states his own personal beliefs in a non-threatening logical manner. I find this book well-written and documented. It is very easy to highly recommend this book.
