Joe North shares life lessons he learned as a coach in Convictions of an Old Coach. If you are or plan to be a coach, this is the book for you. Taking Joe’s advice will make you a better coach and save you many heartaches. Learning from his mistakes and wisdom is much better than making the same mistakes at a high cost to you. Joe does not just give a team pep talk in this book but gives wise advice on how to win at life. Even if you are not into sports—which I am not—you will understand and use the information in this book to better your life. Non-sports types should read this book for its pure inspiration and motivation. Joe carefully chooses examples from his years of coaching to highlight his teachings. This should be required reading for every new coach. Every seasoned coach should read this to help develop into an even better coach.

As I read Convictions of an Old Coach by Joe North, I felt like I was sitting on my grandfather’s porch listening to him share his wisdom. Homey and comfortable is Joe’s method of writing. Sharing wisdom from the heart is so much more effective than preaching and lecturing. This book will boost any basketball coach’s ability, but it is so much more than that. Joe knows people. The knowledge gained through his years of being a winning coach is also valuable for interpersonal relationships, even if you are not a coach. Joe North is a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and realizes that his successes result from God’s grace. Joe is not ashamed to share his belief and dependence on Jesus. This book is an inspiration for living life abundantly.
