Connor & Gunn: Buried in Vasti by Rivka Vann introduces us to two characters (Connor and Gunn) who have spent a long time apart but they must come back together and solve a murder case. Detective work is never easy and sometimes things just don't come together as fast as you wish they would - yet with a little bit of hard work and some help from old friends, anything can happen and anything can be solved.
This is one hefty book and honestly I enjoyed every single page of it. Clancy Connor and Bess Gunn have some fantastic depth of character to them. The further you get into the book the more they come alive as characters with more layers being exposed as you go. The writing is true to life and you don't always find that with mysteries. So often the detective just goes from win to win and solves the case in a short amount of time. This book shows that detective work is not a perfect science, that is it work, but in the end things do get done. While the book is a true murder mystery, there is also some levity and humor to keep you smiling and overall just enjoying the book. Rivka Vann has found just the right balance here and knows how to write. This is my first read by Rivka Vann but I hope it will not be the last. If you are looking for a thick, enjoyable and juicy read, then this is going to be the one for you.
