Coco's Courage: Meeting the Dentist is an inspirational children’s book by Dr. Shon S. Lewis. On her first day of kindergarten, Coco found a bag of fruit candies in the cafeteria that someone had dropped and brought it home. Later, Coco took additional candies from the jar on the living room table at her grandmother's house when she was asleep. Over time, Coco's teeth began to hurt, and her father saw that she had cavities in them. Coco told her parents about the candy she took and expressed her fear of visiting the dentist. Coco’s parents told her God did not want her to steal, and she had to apologize for taking the candy. Coco gained the confidence to visit the dentist after praying in her room and asking God for courage.
Coco's Courage: Meeting the Dentist by Dr. Shon S. Lewis conveys important lessons to kids about making moral decisions and having the bravery to face their fears. The story moves fast and stays true to the lesson told. It is an interesting story, and if your child is nervous about visiting the dentist or is about to have their first appointment, I highly recommend it. Children are taught throughout the story about the value of eating a healthier diet and taking better care of their teeth to prevent cavities. The illustrations by Viona Betzy and C. Lola are beautiful and colorful. The story is written from a Christian point of view and inspires kids to face their fears with courage through prayer and the help of their parents.
