Choices, Choices: Who Will I Be? by Dawn Renee Young is a children's book that looks at various career options through rhythmic wordplay. Each page presents a different profession, briefly describing the tasks and responsibilities associated with roles that include, but are by no means limited to, a nurse, a chef, an architect, a plumber, and an astronaut. Young encourages children to imagine themselves in these roles, showing the diverse ways one can contribute to society. Through simple, playful lines and classic colorful illustrations by Marta Taylor, the book depicts the value of different jobs. The book closes by inviting children to reflect on their own dreams and make their own choices about who they might become, with space to draw what that might look like.

Choices, Choices: Who Will I Be? by Dawn Renee Young is unique in how, rather than following a traditional plotted story, it directly presents a range of professions, and does so without prioritizing one type of job over another. This is a refreshing approach as it shows that all careers have value. Worth noting, there aren't any artistic jobs depicted, a point noticed by my younger reader. The illustrations by Marta Taylor, who is a very talented professional artist, are the centerpiece of the book. Her work is wonderfully vibrant in its diverse representation of children in each career, making the message relatable and inclusive. I especially love the illustration of a child astronaut in a wheelchair. Overall, this is a solid little read that allows children to imagine themselves in any role they choose, in a positive and expansive view of the future.
