In Chick-A-Bunga by Gail Kamer, Feathers is a chicken living on a farm, who desperately wants to fly like all the other birds. Feathers spends her days coming up with crazy ideas to help her achieve her dream, but none of them work out like she planned, and she often ends up falling on her face. Feathers is determined to realize her dream, though, with the help of her farm friends, who put up with her schemes, even offering her their own tail feathers with which to make a pair of wings.
Chick-A-Bunga by Gail Kamer is a fun story and the pictures are great. Kids would really enjoy the images and the story. Feathers proves that perseverance pays off in the end. Her chicken friends are funny, especially their thoughts on what Feathers is doing, with them eating popcorn while watching her latest escapade, but they still help her even if they do think she is crazy. As real friends should, although Feathers does take precautions such as a parachute to save her when she fails to fly. Overall, I do think it has a positive message for kids of never giving up on your dreams, even if they don’t work out the first time around. Keep trying and you will get there in the end, even if it is not in the way you expected. I would recommend this story for young readers.
