Chasing the Sun by Melanie Hooyenga is a well-written and engaging romance novel about young love. You have the quiet girl named Sage, a new guy named Neb, and a solar eclipse. The question is, will love blossom between them? Hooyenga has created an interesting pair with these two. Both are a little awkward at times. Not your typical brazen hero and heroine couple. This is a sweet romance with endearing themes, and an eclipse at the center of it. These two leads seem to be made for each other, but time will tell. I think you'll find yourself instantly involved in the story and characters, and will enjoy the plot and developing relationship.

I like that the author has created non-traditional characters that are relatable to the average person, and the character traits are some that belong to friends you may have or people you know. I also like the first-person POV and that the novel starts out describing Sage and her personality. She has self-doubt and reservations but has a close friend who is encouraging and supportive. Sage's attempts at coming out of her shell are what prompt her to join a group camping trip with twenty of her classmates. This kind of public activity sends her walls up--she's more comfortable at home. Yet she agrees to the adventure. This is where she meets the space-loving, science-minded Neb. There is instant chemistry, but another girl has her eye on him, so what is Sage to do when it's flight or fight time? This is the first of a Campfire Series, and if you are into breezy romances with genuine characters and a lot of heart, you will love this book and this author. Definitely give Chasing the Sun by Melanie Hooyenga a chance to win you over as a fan.
