Cavern of the Veil Queen: Conquest of the Veil Book Four is Michael Scott Clifton’s explosive conclusion to his epic fantasy series. A thousand-year war rages on in Meredith. Each side is weary from the seemingly never-ending conflict and longs for victory. The Empire of Meredith, fighting for freedom from the tyranny of the Dark Queen, will have to lead a charge through a breach in the veil to seize victory - a magical barrier that only the monster hordes can pass through. While the imperial army marches through the portal, Alex and Tal search for allies to bolster their forces but the Dark Queen’s pawns stand in their way and sabotage their efforts to finally put an end to this war of attrition. Their troubles don’t end there, however, as the sudden appearance of the gap in the impregnable veil begs the question; is it a trap? Will darkness snuff out the light in this explosive conclusion or will the Empire of Meredith triumph?
At first, I thought the plot seemed to be pretty standard stuff in the epic fantasy genre but as I read on, I realized that there are quite a lot of moving pieces in the story which kept it fresh and captivating. The pages practically turned themselves after the first few chapters as I was sucked into the world of Meredith. Michael Scott Clifton’s prose drew me in further as it made his world incredibly lively and gave it that lived-in feeling. His writing fully immersed me in the central conflicts, characters, and the world too as there was never a dull moment to be found here. The fast pacing kept me hooked, and I found the book more pleasurable when compared to most epic fantasy which employs the slow burn approach. The dialogue was great too and came over as natural. Every line of dialogue either showed me more about the world and plot or served as a springboard to develop the characters. Cavern of the Veil Queen is a good read and worthy of your time if fast-paced epic fantasy is what you’re looking for.
