Cookie was fired from her job, accused of embezzlement, and is now playing detective along with her dog Sigmund and her new best friend Rhonda. Cookie is the star of Candy, Murder & Me by Carolyn Chambers Clark. When Cookie discovers that the private investigator, Sam Falcone, who she hired to prove her innocent of the embezzlement charge by her former boss is found dead, she somehow decides that it is up to her to find his killer. Rhonda was Sam’s assistant and she is distraught over his death. Cookie and Rhonda immediately form a best girlfriend bond and together they set out to solve the case. The girls find themselves in several tight spots and scary situations but they refuse to give up, even when there are more mysterious deaths. The girls press on, even when their own lives are threatened, until the true killer is found.
Candy, Murder & Me: Amateur Detective and Recipes is a cute, light, easy read. I found Candy, Murder & Me to be a pleasant story. Cookie and Rhonda were interesting characters and it was so easy to love Sigmund. The plot was not complicated and the book was a quick read. There were several recipes included throughout the story. I think I would have liked them better grouped at the end of the book, but I am sure readers will enjoy the novelty of recipes included in a murder mystery! I do look forward to a follow-up from Carolyn Chambers Clark to find out what kind of trouble awaits Cookie and her sleuthing.
