Campaign is the eighth installment of The Globur Incursion series by D. Rebbitt. After the destruction of the Globur battlegroup in the Chaco system and the Mongolian system liberated from their control, Grand Admiral Medici is determined to convince the Senate to wrest control of other systems from the Globur. Senator Strauss from planet Colmar is particularly advocating for the Alsace system. Meanwhile, people from the rim worlds are flocking to the recruiting stations to become Marines, and Karl Zenke is the commander of the new Imperial Fleet Battleship, Bismarck. Armed with new suits, weapons, and augmented technology, the Marines are ready to take back the territory lost to the Globurs. Major Sergeant Homer Sanderson must once again leave his life with his girlfriend, Lilly Verange, to fight in a war with both sides leaving no quarter.
D. Rebbitt continues to woo sci-fi fans with this gripping space military thriller that rarely gives you a breather. Epic in scale and filled with action, suspense, and intrigue, Campaign feels like what HBO's hit TV show Band of Brothers probably would've looked like if set in space. Rebbitt has created a sprawling sci-fi universe with believable characters and an ambitious story that is immersive and thoroughly riveting to read. The cast of characters is quite large, and the multiple POV narrative approach allows the reader to observe the war through the eyes of each major player. As this is the eighth book in the series, I suggest readers read the previous installments before tackling this one. Overall, a fantastic space war novel.
