In Cale Thornsbe - The Boy Who Could See by Cassie Williams, Cale is an unusual boy who was adopted by his parents in an unusual way. He came with a golden seal and was delivered by a lady in black. Though the circumstances were strange, his parents loved him all the same. They would tell him the story of how they got him all the time when he was a kid, and he grew up with that little golden seal. He was unusual and did not have very many friends - in fact most kids made fun of him because he wasn't exactly normal. He has only ever had one friend, a girl named Reya. They are both now almost thirteen years old, and something weird is starting to happen. He starts hearing and seeing things that aren't there. Together the two go on an adventure that will bring them closer.
I loved this book. Though it is for kids, I really enjoyed the plot and all the story had to offer. The plot twists are my favorite part of the book and some things I really didn't expect to see happen. I liked how well developed the characters were and how good the imagery was. It is a great intro book for kids who are learning to read on their own and I think it is just the book to get them to love reading. Preteens would love it as well. It is well worth the read.
