Café in the Park by Elodie Parkes is a tantalizing romance about a woman, Emily, who joins a dating agency with the one wish of finding love. Her advertisement catches the eye of the handsome Chris, a mysterious man with many secrets in his past. Both are craving human companionship and affection. It doesn’t take long for Chris and Emily to fall deeply in love with each other. Unfortunately, along with those secrets comes a woman who would do anything to break the newly smitten pair apart. With this added threat, Chris is forced to make a decision to reveal his secret to Emily and risk possibly losing her forever. Will love conquer all?
Miss Parkes weaves a steamy story of lovers tested by past secrets. I enjoyed the added paranormal aspect of the romance as well as the sizzling chemistry between Chris and Emily. I felt that the story could have been drawn out to perhaps include more about why Emily never found true love in a relationship or maybe some more background details on Chris before he met Emily. I believe this would have made the characters deeper and more realistic to the reader. I liked the woman from Chris’s past and I was not expecting that while reading. I, again, wanted to know more about her and why she had come to seek Chris out after all those years. Overall, though, as a quick, spicy read, Café in the Park fulfills those requirements perfectly. This novella would be a perfect beach read.
