With fresh snow outside, Ms. Mandy had a sweet and exciting day planned for her class. The kids are happy about the weather and look forward to making snow angels and playing in the ice-cold fluff. Dylan’s dad brings him to childcare and offers to help Ms. Mandy by getting a bowlful of fresh snow. While setting up the treat she intends to make with the class, something starts smoking in the kitchen. What could have caught fire? Will the kids get to safety? How will they know what to do? What treat was Ms. Mandy making for the kids?
Burnt Toast And Snow Cream Cones is an adorable story that will help kids learn something new or reinforce important safety rules when there’s a fire. I enjoyed the classroom setting and the close-knit community relationships between the characters. What I love most about this book is the life lessons woven throughout that teach kids how important it is to follow directions, remember safety plans, and practice safety drills so that they will know what to do during an emergency. The illustrations by Jasmine Mills add an extra layer of fun to the story. I recommend Burnt Toast And Snow Cream Cones by Heather L. Beal to youngsters who are ready to start reading and enjoy a story they can learn from.
