Billy and Bella bullied everyone who was near them and happened to be different. Billy's first target was someone he thought was flamboyant and fanciful and, according to Billy, resembled a girl. Billy tagged him as the 'teacher's pet' as he was the brightest of the bright. On the other hand, Bella stalked the newest girl and found out she was from the foreign part of the town. Bella wanted to know if she spoke English or if she was stupid. Let's read the book to discover their other targets and how the targets coped with bullying from their adolescence to adulthood. The book also speaks about the reaction of the parents of the bullies when they were told about their bullying kids. The bullied kids had faith that their lives would get better, despite every day posing a challenge to their hopes, dreams, and fears. Would Billy and Bella be able to change themselves and create a new path?
Bullied by Scott J. Langteau tackles the important topic of bullying and teaches readers to stay true to themselves without faltering if they have to undergo what the targets in the story did. Erik Ly makes the concept and the characters tangible with his wonderful illustrations. There will be a Billy and a Bella in every school and this story is the best way to help young readers deal with bullies. The book also gives hope to the bullies and encourages them to change for the better. The book is a good one for tutors and parents to read out loud to kids and is also good for bullies to understand it is never too late to change. There are positive and empowering messages to both the bullies and the bullied and that is what makes the book a must-read and a must-have because it will definitely make a difference in everyone's lives.
