Henrietta Sikes is not your typical young lady. We first meet Etty as a cabbie, driving her horse and carriage through city streets with a cap pulled low to hide her identity. When she picks up a fare who is running from some thugs, the greatest adventure of her life begins. Bronze Fox, Book 1 of the Rifters Series by Diana Green follows Etty and Tobias Shelton, a fox shape shifter who travels the rift between planets, as they embark on an adventure to prevent a crime lord from obtaining an artefact that could change the destiny of many worlds. Uncovering a hidden power, Etty receives some basic training at The Academy so she can join Tobias as his assistant. Through their close connection, more than friendship begins to grow, but danger is all around, demanding that they be cautious. Following two hardened criminals who are delivering the artefact to a hidden location on a distant world, Etty and Tobias encounter sinister characters, jungle natives and amazing creatures they may not get past. Will her quick training be enough to see Etty and Tobias safely back home or will some sacrifice have to be made for the greater good?
Excitement and amazing new worlds are just part of what makes Bronze Fox, Book 1 of the Rifters Series by Diana Green a terrific read. With just a little description, the characters portray tremendous depth and the action keeps the story going at the perfect pace. Magic, ingenuity and plain old determination are mixed well with a bit of a love story for good measure. This is certainly an imaginative and entertaining read that is hard to put down. Great story! I was sorry to come to the end - at least I know there's more in the future.
