Broken Lenses, Volume 2: Seeing Others’ Value in a World of Division by Emily Bernath is a powerful, moving way to strengthen the Christian walk and improve the way one views others, which is through the lens of Christ and Christianity. This book is a follow-up to the author's Broken Lenses: Identifying Your Truth in a World of Lies. Bernath goes in depth in explaining how people develop certain views and biases over time that are unhealthy or harmful toward others, but it isn't too late to change and be more loving and accepting of others. The author outlines Bible-based take-away lessons and offers an honest, helpful account of how she herself struggled with self-worth issues following a personal trauma. The chapters address populations she calls "they" because "they" is the term we often label as "them" or "others" who seem to make choices that may seem unlovable and hard to understand. The questions at the end of the chapters will help readers examine their own beliefs and how they view others.
The author does a wonderful job of explaining her thoughts and relaying her points back to the Bible and the teachings of the church about being less judgmental. Her message is simple yet profound and should make a big impact on readers who are looking for a way to heal the divisions in our society and bring more people together through faith. To paraphrase, she says that once you see others as God sees them, and love them as God loves them, healing and reconciliation can begin. I like that Bernath talks about her childhood, her own faith journey, and the church family that supported her. It's all about unity and living life the way Christ teaches. For an inspiring work that will strengthen your Christian life and help you see the worth in others, put Broken Lenses, Volume 2: Seeing Others’ Value in a World of Division by Emily Bernath on your must-read list.
