The tactless, belligerent, and unscrupulous Brett Cornell is at it again in David D. D'Aguanno's Brett Gets Hammered, the sixth installment in his Brett Cornell series. In this installment, Brett is hired by siblings Tammy and Andy Rankin to prove that their late father's death was not due to natural causes, though their motives aren't those of devoted children. They're in it for the money and so is Brett. After all, Brett is a self-proclaimed "unscrupulous bastard" who will do anything to get a woman like Tammy Rankin and money, and at the moment, for Brett, the latter matters most.
Readers will need a good and flexible sense of humor because D'Aguanno's cheeky character can really get under a person's skin, which says a lot about D'Aguanno's talent at making his characters leap off the page. The plot of the story itself is your typical cozy detective narrative, but that is no matter because just like in the best sleuth novels, readers return for the main character. In this case, its the king of raunch, Brett Cornell.
I got the chance to listen to Travis Henry Carter play Brett Cornell and it was an absolute treat. I love the attitude and flair he puts behind Brett's voice; I think it perfectly fits the raunchy character. I absolutely enjoyed my time listening to Mr. Carter and, with his voice, Brett felt like a walking-talking Scorsese monologue. I recommend others to enjoy this story for themselves; you will definitely not be disappointed if you've got a sense of humor about you.
