Branden's Ghosts: The First Hunt by Linda Anthony Hill is the story of nine-and-a-half-year-old Branden, who arrives home from school expecting to meet his babysitter/tutor, Shelly. When Shelly isn't there to open the door for him, he finds the spare key and lets himself into the house. Branden sees it as an opportunity to finally prove his independence, staying home alone without the presence of a babysitter. But his glee soon turns to worry and fear when he wonders what could have happened to Shelly and when he hears a noise in the kitchen and bathroom. Suddenly an unexpected visitor arrives at the door and lets herself in, claiming she can help Branden find the ghost. Branden is unsure about allowing the stranger in but is curious to see the ghost.
Branden's Ghosts: The First Hunt by Linda Anthony Hill is a creative, heartwarming, and suspenseful children's storybook. Branden is a delightful and amusing young boy who arranged with his parents to publicly refer to his babysitter as his tutor because he feels he can stay at home alone. Brandon learns two crucial lessons. First, perhaps he is not ready to stay home alone after all because he let a stranger into the house, and second, maybe ghosts aren't necessarily scary when they could be deceased family members looking out for you. Hill kept me intrigued as I was curious to find out who Branden allowed to enter the house. Branden's Ghosts is a beautiful story, and I loved reading it.
