Bound By His Word by Christi Corbett is a clean historical romance. Molly is a widow with a small son, Andy. Andy is named after his father, Andrew, who died in the Civil War. Andrew died in the arms of his war buddy, Luke. Andrew gave Luke the assignment of taking his locket back to Molly and telling her his last words. Due to Luke's injuries, he has a stump for one arm. He spent a lot of time recuperating, and then after the war was over he walked across the country. By the time Luke arrives, it has been 4 years since Andrew died. Molly is running a cafe by herself and trying to raise Andy. Luke knows Molly needs help with the cafe so he stays and helps, neglecting to tell her why he is there. Then Andy finds the locket in Luke's pocket. Not long after that Andy disappears.
My favorite thing about Bound By His Word by Christi Corbett is learning about the cafe and what kind of meals they cooked, and what it took to get it all ready and done each day. I loved how Molly is independent, wanting to make her business work to support Andy and herself. I appreciated how Luke was determined to get things done even with one arm and a stump. I liked how Andrew's parents helped with Andy and were loving and kind to Molly. It was very exciting when Andy was lost. It also was exciting when there was a fire behind the cafe. I loved how Luke with one arm got the best of the bully who had two good arms. This is a great book by an author I did not know. I would be pleased to read more books by her. I liked that the book did not include any bad language or questionable morals.
