Born to be Wicked is a work of fiction in the urban fantasy, paranormal, and action/adventure sub-genres, and was penned by author Shade Owens. The work is intended for the mature adult reading audience and contains the use of explicit language throughout as well as moderate violence and sexual content. Our protagonist is Alexis Rayne, a killer for hire with an excellent record, who finds herself in hot water when she is accidentally spotted at a pivotal job. With her identity and career on the line, Alexis is determined to destroy the evidence of her mistakes whilst also taking on a dangerous new job that might be a suicide run in itself.
Author Shade Owens has crafted a high-octane work of fantasy fiction with plenty of action, thrills, spills, and dry humor to offer its readers. One of the features which I found particularly impressive about this piece was its attitude, which is prevalent in every slick move, every stylish vista, and every delightful moment of dialogue from our leading lady’s lips. Alexis is a hardcore heroine who takes no prisoners and seeing her put to the test shows off a well-rounded character with dark secrets that you just can’t wait to find out about. The plot constructed around her flows wonderfully with plenty of sharp surprises and the paranormal and fantasy elements weave into the story with realism and ease. Overall, I would highly recommend Born to be Wicked to fans of light-hearted urban fantasy romps, high-stakes action on every page, and for those who enjoy a truly unapologetic kickass female lead.
