Bookmarked for Death: Psychic Sleuths and Talking Dogs by Max Parrott is the third book in the Jaz and Luffy Cozy Mystery series. Jasmine has finished her first semester away at college, which gave her a break from solving murders. When she and her talking dog Luffy return home, what was intended to be a relaxing visit is flipped upside down following a vision that signals a murder to come. She's soon confronted by changes that took place in her time away after discovering that her parents not only got a new puppy but a new trainer has swooped in, taking her former clients. She knows murder is not far behind so when a dead body is discovered, Jasmine is quickly thrown into the investigation and sets out to find the truth about the new trainer that has taken her place.
Max Parrott has delivered a wonderfully quirky and unique cozy mystery that blends the playful tone of a cozy with the zaniness of a supernatural comedy with the love of dogs thrown into the mix. The cozy is definitely for dog lovers as the love of man's best friend is at the center of the mystery with the plot revolving around dog training. The plot is truly an original concept with the psychic visions and a talking dog adding a touch of paranormal to the cozy genre, but Jasmine remains a grounded character as a young college student with the weight of the world on her shoulders. She just wants to be a college student and take a break from her studies, only for her gift to push her further towards finding her purpose. Bookmarked for Death is a delightful read that every dog lover and mystery lover will want on their shelves with an intriguing murder mystery, psychic visions, and a talking dog.
