Book Simulator is a hilarious, satirical self-help novel in the vein of books that promise to help you read faster! Better! More efficiently! However, instead of selling you empty promises and broken dreams of becoming a better reader, Book Simulator is here to help fool your friends, family, and acquaintances that you are, in fact, a true bibliophile and avid reader by teaching you valuable techniques, like how to make and maintain direct eye contact with your book and how to turn pages in such a way that it seems genuine.
As soon as I read the synopsis, I knew that Book Simulator was going to be a fun read. And I was not wrong. Author Chris Yee (who the book identifies as not being a real person in the first author bio—yes, there are two!) has a natural aptitude for comedy. His dry humor was engaging (prepare yourself to have a staring contest with a book, literally!), delightfully charming, and surprising to the very end. As you progress through Book Simulator, you are rewarded with a thumbs-up (sometimes a barrage of thumbs ups!)—except for when you aren’t because the simulator is displeased with you. Overall, Book Simulator worked for me. Thanks to Chris Yee and Book Simulator, I learned how to seem like a reliable and knowledgeable reader, which is how I wrote this review.Just kidding! I read Book Simulator from start to finish and had the best laugh I’d had in a long time. I would recommend Book Simulator to anyone who enjoys a quick read, likes to laugh, or is looking for a fun conversation starter.
