Boiling Point is a romance in the science fiction and adventure subgenres and forms the first novel of the Gods of Atlantis book series. It is best suited to the general adult reading audience owing to some moderate scenes of violence and explicit language used throughout. Penned by August Niehaus, this anthropomorphic adventure takes us to the island of Naushena where life is set out pretty clearly for our rebellious protagonist Charra. Rejecting the traditional path that has been expected of her ever since she was a cub, Charra follows her part-time lover Minnor right into the path of another figure, who lights up a different but equally exciting part of her heart.
August Niehaus brings readers a fresh and modern take on romance, sci-fi, and fantasy adventures which is nothing like the rest. Beautifully original and filled with freedom of expression, Charra’s three-way romance allows readers to explore an openness with her that breaks boundaries and literary conventions, showcasing a new kind of story where the happily ever after is rooted deeply in what the main character wants, not what anyone else expects. As such, there’s a lot of great character work in the narration and dialogue to bring our central trio to life, and I especially got swept up in the banter and flirtation of it all. Witty and imaginative, the sci-fi and fantasy elements are atmospheric and suitably backgrounded to let the character-led storyline shine. Overall, I would recommend Boiling Point, and I can’t wait to see more of this intriguing and uplifting series.
