Billy Jean the Cloud and Bill the Hawksbill Turtle Save Endangered Animals (Volume 1) by Dr. Hyacinth Paul is an educational and encouraging story for children that speaks to them about the importance of protecting and saving endangered animals on the planet and preserving the fragile eco system. Billy Jean the Cloud and Bill the Hawksbill Turtle are having a good day frolicking in the waters of the Cape of Good Hope. They like to dance around the coral reefs, explore, and swim with the fishes. One day when the sun rises, Billy Jean goes up in the air and becomes a cloud. The south wind carries her over the deserts and savannahs of Africa. She sees and meets some beautiful animals there. She sees that there are not many animals, the forests are being cut down, water temperatures are rising, and the coral reefs are dying. Billy Jean and Bill roll over to the sandy beaches of the Cape of Good Hope and write in the sand for all the boys and girls and moms and dads to see: ‘Save the coral reefs, oceans, and forests.'
The author addresses a relevant topic in a very innovative and unique way that will catch the attention of young readers and make them want to do their bit so that many lonely animals will find friends and will be brought back from the brink of extinction. The illustrations are adorable and make the concept clear and the animal characters palpable to readers. It is definitely a book for classroom storytelling and read aloud sessions not only because of the important message, but the story also makes children aware of their responsibilities towards Planet Earth and gives them information about the lives of wild animals.
