In Beyond Darkness Lies The Truth, Amy Louise Hill delights us with seven short stories. Faithful to the author's style of writing, they are thrilling by nature but very different. It is a miscellaneous compilation of stories with varied themes, including the paranormal, the supernatural, magic, and even everyday life. All of them follow a similar structure, starting with what seems to be a traditional young adult theme. Soon after, though, something unexpected happens, something unusual. From there on, everything goes into a spiral, unraveling the twisted and somewhat macabre truth. Something else that amazed me was that even the most other-worldly of these stories tackle everyday issues of great importance.
As a person with very little leisure time, I struggle to find moments to read. You can see me hunched over my book almost everywhere, such as waiting for my friends, at bus stops, or while studying. What caught my attention with this book was the opportunity to read something to its conclusion without it interfering with my everyday activities. Much to my delight, the time it took me to read each short story was the same as my usual bus journey. Contrary to what it may seem, and despite their twisted nature, the stories are lighthearted, which means that many people will enjoy them. Nevertheless, they all maintain the inviting and gripping nature that led me to choose this book in the first place. The result, Beyond Darkness Lies The Truth by Amy Louise Hill is a light, easy to read, and alluring collection for everyone.
