Beyond Blue by Austin Comacho is a clever mystery which just might turn into a series. Funded by an anonymous donor known only to the director of Beyond Blue Investigations, the organization seeks to help New York City police officers in trouble. Some have been unfairly accused of violating the rights of criminals. Others are in danger of crossing over to the "dark side" of criminal activity. Still others have domestic problems which threaten to interfere with their duties. This is a mosaic novel in which the director of the BBI is a trained and cunning man who seems to move his agents around on a chess board like a champion chess master. BBI Director Paul Gorman seemingly sits behind his desk while he orchestrates ongoing machinations among and between his agents, all in the interests of rescuing damaged police officers. There are actually four situations all going on at the same time and the reader will be mesmerized at the eventual tying together of the cases.
The agents in Beyond Blue are all fascinating people with skills which nearly exceed belief! You will meet Chastity, Ruby, Steele and Stone as well as a gutsy receptionist with more than her life at stake. When Gorman and his assistant Gunny get into the act, readers will be drawn to the sense of strength and cunning that we wish was present in all people dedicated to taking a wrong and making it right. Comacho is highly skilled at moving the players on the board at just the right time so that he will never allow his agency to be check-mated. A fun and fast-paced read!
