Bethlehem, the Year Jesus Was Born: Unwrapping the Theology Behind Christmas is a work of non-fiction focusing on religion, history, and theology, and was penned by author Scott Douglas. The second book in the Organic Faith series, this concise standalone read is packed with an intriguing exploration of the first Christmas, which peels back the other layers where pop culture and traditions have covered the original Bible story. Exploring the gift that God gives us through the first Christmas, the work presents a deep consideration and appreciation for theology and history, as well as an uplifting perspective on the true meaning and what we can take from it in the modern age.
Author Scott Douglas has crafted an excellent read for Christians and those who are interested in exploring the Bible more deeply. As Christmas is such a central holiday and culture for much of the Western world, it was wonderful to find a clearly narrated and open exploration of the origins of the holiday according to the Bible, which helps to filter through the different myths and legends that have sprung up around it and get to more meaningful ideas that are helpful to modern life. The narrative style of the work is uplifting, and it offers an inspiring level of discovery like a teacher explaining the history and subject matter to their audience with great passion and clarity. Overall, I would definitely recommend Bethlehem, the Year Jesus Was Born: Unwrapping the Theology Behind Christmas to readers seeking the fundamental things around Christmas and its spiritual meaning.
