Bentley is a lovable hippo with which children and parents will fall in love. He is dedicated to helping children learn how to be inclusive, accepting, loving, kind, and other positive values. Argyro Graphy authored Bentley Hippo ABC Empower Me: Be Anything You Want to Be to instill hope and aspiration in children. Each letter represents either a career the child might choose or a virtue for the child to emulate. Two things make this book an excellent reading choice for your children. The first is the illustrations include differently-abled characteristics. Second, the drawings were colored by two young children on the Autism Spectrum. More differently-abled characters need to be included in books. Argyro has rewritten a classic into a new and improved classic.
All children need to learn the alphabet, so why not learn the letters in a way that teaches acceptance of those differently-abled? This book also shows the characters helping those who need help. Parents, read this book to and with your children. As you read, explore the various careers your child might want to follow in the future. Children are usually loving and accepting, but they may learn to fear those who are different. Your job as a parent is to teach them to be inclusive and loving to those who are differently-abled. (I despise the word “disabled.” They are able, but abled differently). Argyro Graphy’s inclusion of differently-abled individuals in Bentley Hippo ABC Empower Me: Be Anything You Want to Be is a stroke of genius. I highly recommend this book!
