Beloved Sacrifice by Lorraine Carey is a paranormal novel for young adults to adults. When Faith Bennett finds herself pregnant, her grandmother, Donatella, tells her the story of a curse placed on their family many years ago in Pacentro, Italy. Although her great-grandmother managed to save her daughter, Faith's daughter may be in danger from a rogue clan of Romani. The clan seeks to seize the power gifted to Faith’s daughter from the breaking of the curse. Faith’s husband, Connor, is skeptical of this and passes it off as the ramblings of an old lady. Faith, however, believes she must do something. Along with her mother, Faith travels back to Italy with an heirloom dagger given to her by Donatella. Can she break the curse in time, or will deception lead to the death of Faith and her baby?
Beloved Sacrifice by Lorraine Carey was intriguing. I enjoyed learning about the curse and how the people of the village were so superstitious, even in 1930. One part that stuck out for me was the Strega who protected the village and kept it hidden from Nazis during the Occupation. I feel Faith could have been a stronger character with more conviction. Connor seemed to walk all over her and he almost seemed controlling in the way he had his brother come to watch her while he was gone. As a character, I did not like him at all. Overall, for the genre, Beloved Sacrifice is an interesting and easy read.
