With the preponderance of reality shows on the air, it's a rare person who hasn't gotten sucked in by at least one of them. Bellamy's Redemption by Holly Tierney-Bedord, despite its serious title, is a light-hearted romp through one of these "love shows." The Bellamy of Bellamy's Redemption failed to win the heart of the fair Alanna Rutherford in an earlier reality series. His own new show will provide him with an opportunity to find the true love that he missed in the first show, thus Bellamy's Redemption.
Emma and her friends were glued to the TV on the evenings of the first series, centered around Alanna Rutherford. Emma's heart broke for poor Bellamy as he rode off, the final loser, on the camel the show had generously provided for him. When Emma hears that he will get a second chance on a new show, she knows what she must do! Emma asks her next-door neighbor Pete, who is a professional television infomercial announcer, and cute as the dickens, to make a demo for her to send to the producers. She is accepted into the interview stage and, ultimately, becomes a contestant on the new show, Bellamy's Redemption.
Does the author, Holly Tierney-Bedord, have insider information on how a reality show is run? Or is this book the product of pure imagination? Either way, it sounds realistic, including showing the boredom of the crew and the shameless self-promotion of many of the contestants. The plot twists were not at all forced, and they were both entertaining and unpredictable. If you are a fan of chick-lit in general, or a fan of light flirtations in romantic locales, I recommend Bellamy's Redemption.
