Becoming Fenimore: A Novel by Rebecca Bryan is the story of a woman who cannot leave her past and cannot forgo her present. Elle Curtis was surprised when her deceased aunt left her an estate on Mackinac Island. Since she is the only living relative, there is nothing much she can do about it but to go there and see to the estate. There she finds some curious little elements from the past that connect her family with Constance Fenimore Woolson, a writer in the 19th century. Things are definitely strange, but they take a serious turn when she discovers a scarab pin that transports her back to the era of Constance ... where she is Constance. Soon she is entangled in that life and a handsome man is making her question should she stay here or go back? However, there is a person who desperately wants the scarab pin and there is nothing in his or her way except Elle. Can she risk her life and that of her friends, or will she stay stuck in the past?
Beautiful, it was simply beautiful. The novel did not take long to complete, and that is because I was invested in the plot the moment I read the blurb. It is a novel that will get you hooked from the moment you start reading. Elle is a fun character and Jace is the kind of friend that I would want to have. For a lawyer, he is actually very pleasant and not conniving. I liked him and I loved this novel. It was brilliant and the cover is beautiful.
