Beauty’s Gift is the fourth and final installment in the Once Upon a Princess Saga. C.S. Johnson gives a new spin to the story of Sleeping Beauty. Aurora, known as Rose to her friends, faces many issues in this final story. First, she is only a couple of weeks from her eighteenth birthday, and still has not found a way to break the curse which will make her fall into a deep sleep. She also struggles with the man of her dreams, Theo, who professed his love for her, but she fears hurting him by reciprocating. Then there is the king, her father, who is going mad in his old age, due to a long-ago curse placed upon him, an uncle who wants to overthrow the throne, and a mother who is imprisoned in the dungeon for poisoning the king.
Beauty’s Gift is an awesome mix of love, jealousy, fear, and courage. C.S. Johnson delves into the hearts and minds of her characters. She brings out the best and the worst in each of them, making me feel for each of them. Not having read the first three books, I was a bit worried that I would not be able to keep up with the story line, but this was not a problem. I was easily able to jump into the story and bond with the characters. I am sad that the story is over for Rose and Theo. I would love to hear more about them. Great job to author C.S. Johnson for an exciting read.
